Free Trade Agreements

There are many ways for importers to reduce or eliminate the requirement to pay duties and fees. Free Trade Agreements (e.g. North American Free Trade Agreement, Caribbean Andean Free Trade Agreement) are made between countries as a system in which goods and services flow free of government-imposed duties. Claims of duty-free or duty-reduced entry represent a growing percentage of the products imported into the United States.  Many importers save hundreds of thousands of dollars each year through free trade agreements and other duty reduction programs.

Free trade agreements and other duty reduction programs are complex and require strict compliance with many different rules and regulations. Zisser has years of experience advising clients regarding how to qualify for duty savings from free trade agreements and other duty reduction programs. Whether the claim involves NAFTA, CAFTA, GSP, or one of the Chapter 98 provisions (including the 9802.00.80 provision) of the tariff schedule, our team can help companies to fully analyze and determine eligibility for all special claims and free trade agreements.

We work closely with our clients to carefully evaluate all duty reduction opportunities.  We will analyze production processes, material sourcing and bills of material to determine the best possible strategies for reducing costs and eliminating duties.  More importantly we help our clients to establish the necessary controls and procedures to fully protect and insure all duty reduction claims from possible challenge by government authorities.
