Valuation Analysis

The value placed on products at the time of importation represents one of the most critical issues when importing products into the US Importers are required to value their imports accurately. Valuation is used to determine the amount of duty and fees to be paid, and is sometimes used to determine free trade agreement eligibility.

Valuation is complex and requires thorough understanding of the rules and regulations, including methods of valuation, additions to value and proper exclusions from value. Our team of experts has successfully handled the most complicated valuation issues, including computed value and reconciliation. We have successfully handled and processed more computed value declarations and reconciliation filings than any other Customs law firm in the country.  We work with hundreds of Mexican manufacturing facilities (maquiladora and IMEX) on their valuation issues.

We work closely with our clients to evaluate relationships with their suppliers, vendors and agents so we can find the most beneficial dutiable value acceptable to be declared to Customs at the time of entry. We analyze our clients’ valuation methods to make the required modifications which will establish and gain Customs’ approval of the valuation method and obtain the lowest legally acceptable value for duty purposes.
